Project 5 Task 1

Blogging has many benefits for students. It helps students become better writers because they are writing for an authentic audience that can give feedback. It can be a great confidence builder to receive positive feedback. Learning to handle good, constructive feedback is a skill that will help students for their entire lives. Blogging can help students develop a thicker skin, when being guided through how to respond to critical comments.

Blogging also helps students learn to respectfully converse with a diverse group of readers. This can open up many new learning opportunities as they gain new perspectives from input given by readers living in a different culture, geographic location or different life circumstances. They can be writing for an international audience, if the teacher allows it.

Blogging also gives students a place to keep an ongoing portfolio of their work. This can be handy for journal writing or chronicling a project. It can encourage growth in writing, due to the ease of use, which makes students want to write more often. Blogging provides students the opportunity to publish something on the internet, which builds confidence and a desire to do one's best. Why not help your students start blogs of their own? Clearly the benefits are many!
